What is ValueMyStock.com?

ValueMyStock.com is a web tool for calculating the value of publicly-traded stocks. Knowing the true value (or what value investors call “intrinsic value”) of a stock is essential for a successful investing strategy. Intrinsic value is the price that a stock should sell for if properly priced in a normal market. Stocks can be mispriced for a variety of reasons, including pessimism in the market place or lack of investor attention. A value investor looks for a stock that has not yet been discovered or has been beaten down by the market due to short-term or immaterial events. The investor then buys and holds the stock until it reaches intrinsic value, at which time the investor will sell the stock and move on to the next undervalued stock.

Buying a stock and knowing the intrinsic value is like buying a house and knowing the appraised value. You would not buy a house without knowing the appraised value, so why buy a stock without knowing the intrinsic value? Any investing approach should include detailed analysis of the company’s closest competitors just as a home buyer looks at similar homes in the neighborhood.
